cake

its been a long time since i made a cake that i found all sorts of fault with it
i made a choc cake with caramel icing last night, after work
it was good, but i certainly wasnt happy with it

it calls for a cup of coffee, so i made the coffee a bit stronger than normal,
and i could taste a hint of coffee in the cake
not what i wanted at all
i shant be making the coffee stronger than normal after this

and i dumped some choc chips in the batter, the recipe didnt call for it
but i thot it would be good
well, the choc chips all went to the bottom of the cake
next time, i'll put the batter in the pan, then sprinkle choc chips over the top
and see how that works
i think it'll work better
or maybe :lightbulb moment: maybe i'll bake it half ways, then sprinkle choc chips on it
that sounds like a lovely idea

and then, i made caramel icing
and every time i make caramel icing, i'm never satisfied with the looks of it
its good, caramel icing is always good
but this time, i put too much 10x in
and so it got hard on me, before i got it spread
and i put it on too thick
talk abt a sweet cake, it was almost sickeningly sweet

so, i've been trying to give it away
left some at central
mom dad and bro came over for ice cream and cake tonight
and i sent some along home with them
and that left me with 4 pieces
so i wrapped them up and stuck them in the freezer

tomorrow

i've got off tomorrow

jon is coming, and we are going to trim the grapes
maybe i can talk him into bringing mom's roto tiller along

i've gotta work on subscriptions too
and i want to take my taxes to the tax man
i guess i'll have to get up early, and do the taxes and the subs, and then have jon come over around 2 pm

ewwwww

the flusher on my toilet is broken
and i dont like lifting the lid and putting my hand down in the tank to flush it
so, i've been only flushing it every other time
shutting the toilet lid btw times
well, that is turning out to be grosser than lifting the tank lid

i think i need to go to walmart and get a flushing assembly
and hope that i can figure out how to put it together

injuries

its not bad enough i almost burn my house down yesterday
now i went and injured myself today

was to my bro's for dinner today after church
the kids were ecstatic
and i was passing the gravy bowl
and in my defense the bowl was overly full
but i'm still better than all that
i dumped gravy on my wrist, right on my metal watch
ouch
ripped off hte watch and licked hte gravy off my arm
it left a nice red 1st degree burn
i know, i know, 1st degree burn is using dated terminology

it got me out of washing dishes tho!
i played memory with the 2 little girls while sil and the older 2 did dishes

and then, after the dishes were done
we went on a walk
its not a good idea to talk a walk in sunday shoes
even if they are flat shoes
i came back with a huge blister on the ball of hte left foot
and a blister on the right pinkie toe

and when i came home, i took out hte garbage
then washed off the deck table,
and sat out on the deck until hte sun went down behind the ridge
it started to get chilly
kc and i came inside then.

fire

well, i almost burnt my house down today
think that isnt hte adrenalin rush

i decided to make noodles in ham broth for supper, so i got out the frozen broth and put it in a kettle with a bit of water, and on the burner, and turned the knob to 7
pulled the noodles out of the cupboard, laid them down, turned to the sink and was putting water in a pan for the noodles
and just abt the time that i smelled something burning, i saw a reflection of flames in the window in front of my sink
and i whirled around, then stood there gaping for half a sec

and i instantly knew what i had done,
i had turned on the wrong burner and the noodles were laying on that burner
now what do i do?
the fire is flaming upwards, close to a foot high
and my brain is in high gear, call lwd tell him i need help, call 911 but i dont want the fire company to come because of a stove fire, my phone isnt dead, what do i do?
and as my brain is thinking all those thots, i'm reaching down into my cupboard, and i got my large lid and covered up hte noodles on the burner

and when i lifted the lid, it started flaming up again
so i got hte skillet, opened up the oven door, and used the lid and scraped most of that whole pile of burning noodles and melted plastic into the skillet, then covered up hte burner again with the lid
stood there watching the noodles burn in hte skillet, as i'm holding hte skillet, and i blew out that fire  then put the skillet over in the sink

and turned my attention to the burner again, lifted hte lid, and it starts to flame again, but not nearly as much as before. and since it worked to blow out hte other fire in hte skillet, i blew out the fire on the burner as well.
didnt know i was that windy
pulled the burner out of hte socket
realized there is a huge amt of smoke in my kitchen, so i turned on the ceiling fan, opened up the kitchen door, opened up the deck door, remembered that kc was outside which was a good thing
and sat down and shook
and thanked God for His protection

then i gathered up my courage, and cleaned up the mess
and reached deeper and found a bit more, so i made my noodles and ham broth
only i had to use broken into pieces angel hair spaghetti for my noodles cause i burnt the real noodles

and almost 3 hrs later i told mom and dad

"i got a pass from darryl and i'm headed your way for a touchdown"

explanation:
i left my wallet at work this evening
and darryl met french at the end of hte narrows
french met me at strodes fire house
and i got my wallet back

i've got good co-workers

licensure

licensure went well today
we had a lovely day to do it
went thru every single piece of equipment, counted every single 4x4 and alcohol prep pad, and checked expiration dates on everything from meds to phlebotomy tubes to defib pads

but at least its over now, for the next 3 yrs

oh, the best part of it all?
is being at work, and knowing that i dont have to take the calls
bossman took one this morning
and then yetter took one this afternoon
its quite fun, hearing hte pager go and seeing someone else take the call!

bribery

i was in no mood to go to the station today, to do work

so, when i got up i started doing my dishes
i had enough that made it worthwhile to draw water and do them
i was hungry, didnt know what i wanted to eat

i had some chicken legs adn thighs that i stuck in the oven to make season salt chx
and some hamburg that needed something done with

i put the hamburg and some onions in a skilllet and fried them together
along with chili powder, and red pepper flakes
had no idea what i wanted to make with it
i didnt want to make spaghetti sauce, cause i didnt want spaghetti

looked in my cupboard
saw a can of great white northern beans, dumped it in
then saw a can of diced tomatoes, dumped it in
hmmm, needs more tomatoes, do i have anymore?
yup, heres a can of italian style tomatoes with basil and oregano
looking good
added a bit of sugar to it
yummmy

called mom, told her if she stops in on her way home,
and if she thinks its enough, she can take it along home for supper
after i ate my portion, it didnt look like a whole lot anymore
so, i put some potatoes in the oven for her

so, as it turned out, i sent some chx along home too
and the potatoes
i guess that was my good deed for the day

she came too early, i didnt get my choc chip/marshmallow bars baked
so, she didnt get to take any along home
and now they be all mine
(i'd rather have the chili, than the bars tho)

i know what, i'll take some bars along to work tomorrow
that'll get rid of them for me, and i wont have to eat them all myself
tomorrow is licensure
maybe i can bribe scott into being nice to us!

snow

i got to prove myself today
twas fun
i got to prove that i'm a better driver than a guy is!

i had a call with central today
and it was up over a hill that was snow covered
collin tried twice to take the amb up over the hill
and he couldnt
so, jane hopped in with me, and we drove right up the hill
no spinning, no sliding, just drove right up
as if it was a lovely dry lane

he had an amb, which isnt good in snow
and i had a trailblazer with 4 wheel drive
but that had nothing to do with it, you know
it was all the driver!

cold

i came home to a cold house, this evening
and realized that i had set the furnace back to 60 the other day,
and had turned off the electric heater in the deck room
but, i had to turn them back on and turn the thermostat up to 66
because its cold out, and we've got snow
like 6 inches of it

the roads were nasty today
low budget wrecks all over the place
one after another

i came home and opened the door for kc to go out
he stood on the door step and looked out
and he just stood there
then he turned around and came back in
i guess snow isnt his thing
